This course provides an overview of the key concepts and basic theoretical models that explain the economics of migration. After students learn about the theoretical approaches to understand the economics of migration, they will also learn the latest evidence on these theories. This will also give them an idea about how to approach identification threats in the empirical studies that examines complex phenomena like migration.

That said, the course content will first form a basis about the background of the topic in general as well as the forms and key theoretical explanations for the migration decisions. Then, we will examine the economic integration of migrants (both first and second generation) and the factors that are related to this both in theory and also in recent evidence from the economics of migration literature. This will be followed by topics related to the impact of immigration on, first, in destination and, second, in origin countries. The course will be completed by the discussing the frontiers in the economics of migration and overviewing the migration policies across the world.
