His research interests include topics of religious and religion-related learning and teaching - in religious education at school, but also beyond this, for example in the context of heterogeneity-capable, interreligious or anti-Semitism-critical education. One research focus is the question of sustainable models of religious education, currently in a DFG project on implementation research for the introduction of the new school subject "Christian Religion" in Lower Saxony.
In his courses, Prof. Woppowa aims to prepare prospective religious education teachers for this challenging future - with a focus on research and practice, in order to make them competent in shaping religious education processes.
