Advanced Intensive German (AIG)

This Summer School offers participants with prior knowledge of the German language at level A2/B1 (CEFR) the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the langauge and to experience more than 1000 years of German culture and civilization in and around the city of Osnabrück, the City of Peace. By the end of the program, students will have mastered advanced language skills in German equivalent to level B1/B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The program is a cooperation between the Language Center and the International Office at Osnabrück University.

We offer

  • A project-based course, i.e. there is not course book or curriculum based on grammar topics, but students will choose topic and form of presentation (e.g. video, podcast, website, insta stories, etc.) at the start of the course.
  • Projects should be selected based on UOS research foci such as ›peace and conviviality‹, ›sustainability‹, ›migration‹ and ›Artificial Intelligence‹.
  • Resources and technical equipment of UOS’s DigiLab can be used to complete projects; DigiLab staff will introduce all resources available to students.
  • Besides assisting students with their projects, lecturers will introduce students to relevant research skills and language competences in German to prepare and present their projects in the daily lessons.
  • In addition, preparation and teaching of tutorials for international students on level A1.1.
  • A rich cultural and recreational program, including a 4-day trip to Berlin.
  • Certification of up to 9 ECTS credits points at proficiency level B1/B2 CEFR upon successful completion of the language course.

The course fee covers all course materials, accommodation, cultural activities, free public transport, pick-up service from the train station, welcome package and much more!

Course Description

In this project-based language course on CEFR level A2/B1, you will hone your German language and intercultural communication skills by delving into selected topics of German history, culture, as well as the issues and challenges facing young adults in Germany today. Experienced language trainers will supervise and support you in completing your projects and they will provide customised language support throughout the program.The language course will train all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing). In addition, you will have the chance to design and conduct remedial and tutorial sessions for an international group of German language learners at CEFR level A1.1. This will provide participants with a chance to practice their teaching skills and to explore techniques and strategies for developing effective teaching materials.
