The Master's program, which is unique in Germany, aims to impart scientific and action-oriented knowledge and skills for the various fields of activity in social work. The special feature of the course is that it takes into account the needs and requirements of a migrant society. An important focus is on Muslim welfare work. However, students can also choose other specializations in the context of migration. The research perspective of the university degree program also facilitates transitions to a Doctorate.

The Master's degree program is interdisciplinary. The study program is made up of modules from the subjects of Islamic theology, Catholic and Protestant theology as well as education and social sciences.

Even without state recognition as a social worker, there are numerous potential fields of work/action for graduates. A special feature of the degree program is that it increasingly takes into account religion-specific and intercultural access to the migration society. The interdisciplinary orientation allows students to acquire broad knowledge and skills related to current social developments in Europe on the one hand, and a targeted qualification for their future field of work on the other. The degree program thus responds to the increasing differentiation of the labor market for social workers, educational specialists in community services and related professions. It enables students to develop an individual profile that can be flexibly shaped in line with new developments in the fields of all-day schools, extracurricular educational institutions, community work, migrant self-organizations, work with refugees and work in different cultural milieus - e.g. in Muslim welfare work. In the context of the Christian churches, social pastoral work in social spaces is also becoming increasingly important.
