Supporting L2 Writing Competencies at German Universities: German and English as second or foreign languages

From 12-13 March, 2015, the Schreibwerkstatt at the Osnabrück University Language Center hosted the second symposium focusing on supporting L2 writing in German universities.

Practitioners focusing on L2 writing in European universities gathered to share best practices, methods and writing support models. Because the Schreibwerkstatt offers both German and English writing support at the university, we decided to extend the theme to include two other writing groups: German as a foreign language and German as a second language. We propose that DaF, DaZ and ESOL practitioners can learn from each other to strengthen L2 writing support in higher education.

We look forward to joining you at the next symposium, which will be held at the English Writing Center at the Technische Universität München in 2016.

The first symposium, held on 28 March, 2014, by the Writing Center for Academic English and the Center for Modern Languages at Leuphana University, focused on supporting English writing competencies and the role of writing centers in second language writing within German higher education.
