Huangshan Friendship Award

Professor Gesk honored for his commitment

Prof. Dr. Georg Gesk was delighted to receive the Huangshan Friendship Award from Anhui Province, China, in April. Prof. Gesk is Professor of Chinese Law at Osnabrück University.

The Huangshan Friendship Prize was awarded this year for the first time since 2019. Prof. Gesk was honoured in particular for his efforts to internationalize research and teaching in Anhui. "What is special about our cooperation with Anhui University is the commitment and the results that this work brings. For example, Osnabrück students write their theses in Anhui in Chinese - that makes an impression," says Prof. Gesk.

The award ceremony took particular account of successes in cooperation with Anhui University, which enables Osnabrück students to take part in exchange programs - from summer schools and exchange semesters to Master's degrees at the Chinese university. Through Prof. Gesk's initiative, Chinese students are also able to spend exchange semesters at Osnabrück University or obtain a Bachelor's degree in German law for foreign lawyers.

As a sinology student, Prof. Gesk first traveled to Taiwan in 1987, where he studied Chinese law at the National Taiwan University. After completing his Doctorate, he taught at various Chinese universities and the Free University of Berlin before joining the School of Law at Osnabrück University in 2015 as an endowed professor of Chinese law.
