Vice President for Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dr. Jochen Oltmer, is also pleased about this: "When the course started with just under 50 students, hardly anyone would have predicted this success, as it was considered a niche subject. However, we are now known nationally and internationally as an extremely research-intensive and renowned location for cognitive science."

The figure also demonstrates the growing demand for holistic approaches to research into natural and artificial intelligence: research at the interface of psychology, computer science, linguistics and neuroscience. "What is particularly remarkable is that our students not only come from all over Germany, but from all continents (except Antarctica), which also impressively underlines the international appeal of the program," says Prof. Dr. Gordon Pipa, Director of the Institute. And the Managing Director of the Institute of Cognitive Science, Dr. Tobias Thelen, adds: "Fittingly, this year our institution is celebrating its

25th anniversary this year - a fine example of how the close interlinking of excellent research and outstanding students has significantly shaped the success of cognitive research in Osnabrück."
