Intercultural competence is the ability of successful communication with people of other cultures. Intercultural communication serves a vital role in forestalling
miscommunication and misunderstanding, in coping with intercultural situations, in breaking down barriers and in understanding of cultural conditioning.
The lecture is aimed at understanding of cross-cultural dynamics, cultural dimensions and structures. (4/6 ECTS)

Civil society is an important cornerstone of democracy and at the same time offers diverse and low-threshold opportunities to actively shape it. The seminar provides an overview of the functioning, framework conditions and actors of German and Osnabrück civil society. They learn the basics of project and event management as well as the conception of educational programmes. (4 ECTS)

In an ever more wired and interconnected world the knowledge and skill to bring people together and effectively bridge social and cultural differences in communication constitutes a crucial transversal competence for social and professional participation. In this COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) course, students from Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and Osnabrück University (Germany) will have the chance to hone their cross-cultural communication and teamwork skills while working together on a proposal for a suggested intervention around a real-world challenge related to conflict-laden or harmful dialogue among students or on campus. (2 ECTS)

This interdisciplinary seminar brings together students from different academic backgrounds to explore how people live together in diverse societies, with a particular focus on Germany in a global context (4/6 ECTS).

This course is for international students at Osnabrück University who wish to gain an insight into the society and politics of modern-day Germany.(4/6 ECTS)  - This class is taught in German!

The aim of this course is to plan and put into practice a Language Café in the Studierendenzentrum (student activity centre) at Osnabrück University throughout the current semester.
