  • Find a supervisor (member of Osnabrück University/at least PD) and determine the topic of the dissertation ### Application for acceptance as a doctoral candidate (preliminary procedure) § 6 PromO

 Submit an application for acceptance to the doctoral committee of FB 08 (DOC, 146 kB) and submit it with the relevant attachments:

  • Specification of dissertation topic
  • Name of supervisor
  • Curriculum vitae (including academic background)
  • Proof of university entrance qualification
  • Diploma, Magister, Master's or state examination certificate (certified copies)
  •  Declaration of any previous applications for a doctorate in psychology (DOC, 145 kB)
  • a positive statement from the supervisor on the suitability of the topic as a dissertation and its qualification for a doctoral degree in the natural sciences or humanities (§ 1 (2)).

Further details are regulated by the doctoral degree regulations.

The doctoral committee decides at its meeting, usually on a monthly basis.

The following form,  Supervision Confirmation for Doctorates (PDF, 12.81 kB), must be submitted to the Admissions Office for enrollment: Have the confirmation signed by the supervisor and submit it to the office of the doctoral committee of FB 08 for the chairperson of the doctoral committee to sign.

Enrollment is required at the time of using university services (assessment, examination). Enrolments can be made on a semester basis.

Application for admission to the Doctorate at the Doctoral Committee of FB 08

The doctoral committee decides on admission at its meeting and appoints the reviewers (supervisor = reviewer, at least 1 member of the Institute of Psychology (§ 10)) and the doctoral candidate is informed of the decision.

Upon admission, the dissertation is forwarded to the reviewers. The reviews should be completed in writing within 2 months; the doctoral committee will decide whether to extend the deadline.

Reviews are made available for confidential inspection for a period of 3 weeks. Members of the schools holding a doctorate have the right to inspect the dissertation and the reviews and to comment on them in writing. Comments on the dissertation may only be made after the reviews have been displayed; however, they must be submitted within 14 days of the end of the display period at the latest.

After the end of the display period, the doctoral candidate will receive the reviews.

The members of the doctoral committee, which is formed for the disputation, are appointed by the doctoral committee (suggestions from the doctoral candidate can be considered) and the date for the disputation is set.

The doctoral committee appoints 5 members for the doctoral committee (§ 13 PromO ):

Supervisor and reviewer, chair= 1 member from the doctoral committee, at least 2 members Institute of Psychology

The date of the defense will be announced publicly at the university and the invitation to the members will be sent out at least 1 week before the date of the defense.

If the publication is to be made via the University Library, the chairperson must inform the University Library. Changes to the title or in the dissertation must be approved by the supervisor and the chair of the doctoral committee. The doctoral candidate then contacts the University Library directly. The certificate will only be issued after publication. Only when the certificate is issued is the student authorized to use the doctoral title.
