Equal Opportunities Officer
The university's concept for gender equality is described in the framework plan for gender equality: "In carrying out their tasks, the universities promote the actual implementation of Social Equity for women and men and work towards the elimination of existing disadvantages." This equality mandate is enshrined in the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act [NHG, § 3 (3)]. At student and graduate level, women are strongly represented at Osnabrück University (well over 50%). After graduation, however, they increasingly disappear from the academic system ("leaky pipeline").
Osnabrück University has set itself the goal of improving the compatibility of career, studies and family and establishing a family-friendly university culture in the long term. The Institute of Psychology also tries to make it easier to study with a child. For example, attendance at lectures is not compulsory. Instead, the video-based recording of lectures is being promoted so that students can work on the material flexibly in terms of time and location.
