Semester off

Semester leaves of absence are applied for at the Admissions Office.

If there are important, verifiable reasons, you can apply in writing for a leave of absence until the end of the re-registration period, or in exceptional cases within two months of the start of the semester.

During the leave of absence, you retain your rights as a member; however, you are not entitled to attend courses, complete coursework and examinations or make use of the university's support services during this time.
ExceptionThe reason for the leave of absence is a period of study abroad, in which case you may take examinations. Coursework is not possible.

Exmatriculation

You can apply for de-registration at the Admissions Office.

Important: You must be enrolled when you perform/submit work.
You do not have to be enrolled during the assessment process for these achievements. However, we would like to point out that if the performance is assessed as "failed", you must reapply to the degree program in order to complete the performance in the second/third attempt.

You can apply for de-registration at any time, even within a semester.

The Admissions Office advises you to always apply for de-registration stating a reason. Even if de-registration would take place automatically due to non-payment of fees by the university.

There is the possibility of a fee refund if the application for de-registration is submitted within one month of the start of lectures.

No, it is not possible to take an examination/study achievement during a  leave of absence, as students on leave of absence are considered "absent". If you nevertheless take examinations during a semester on leave of absence, these will not be recognized. The work is deemed not to have been completed! It is also not possible to take a leave of absence while writing your Bachelor's or Master's thesis, as these are examinations.
Exception: Students who are on leave of absence due to a period of study abroad are also entitled to take examinations during the period of leave of absence. Coursework cannot be completed.

You must be enrolled at the time of the last assessment. You no longer have to be enrolled for the assessment period.
Note: However, if the last performance is graded as "failed", you must reapply to the degree program in order to be able to use the second attempt.
Interesting fact: If you take the last examination before one month has passed since the start of the course, you can exmatriculate retroactively and have your fees refunded.

Congratulations on your graduation!
The graduation documents will be prepared immediately after receipt of the assessment of the final performance (usually receipt of the reports on the final thesis) at the Examinations Office. These documents must be signed by the Dean and the Chair of the Examination Board. It therefore takes around 2-4 weeks from receipt of the assessment to the handover of the final documents. You will be informed by e-mail when the final documents are ready for collection. If you are no longer in the vicinity of the university, the Examinations Office will be happy to send you the documents by post (as registered mail in a cardboard envelope).

No, only module grades that are required for graduation according to the respective module handbook (appendix to your  examination regulations) are included in the final grade.
