Description of the Institute

The Institute of Psychology at Osnabrück University is characterized by an empirical-experimental orientation and close integration of basic, methodological and applied subjects. This close connection is reflected in both research and teaching.

Bachelor Psychology

The Institute of Psychology offers courses at Bachelor's and Master's level. The  Bachelor's degree in Psychology covers roughly equal parts of the basic subjects (general psychology, biological psychology, differential psychology, developmental psychology and social psychology), the methodological subjects (research methods, statistics and basic diagnostics) and the applied subjects (work and organizational psychology and clinical psychology in general as well as with a focus on child and adolescent psychology).

Master in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy

Building on the Bachelor's degree course, which complies with licensing regulations, the  Master's degree course in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy offers a high degree of specialization and profile development. The course prepares students for clinical-psychological and psychotherapeutic activities and is designed on the basis of the new licensing regulations for psychotherapists (PsychThApprO), which means that it teaches all content relevant to licensing.

Master Intercultural Psychology

The  Master's in Intercultural Psychology is unique in Germany. In addition to Intercultural Business Psychology, the curriculum includes Comparative Social Psychology and Developmental Psychology. The Master's degree course prepares students for a research career in intercultural psychology as well as for a wide range of activities in business and counseling institutions.

Approval conformity

Our polyvalent Bachelor's degree course in Psychology is license-compliant. Following the Master's degree course in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, students can obtain a license to practice as a psychotherapist and then continue their specialist psychotherapeutic training. The continuing education degrees in psychotherapy are affiliated with this program and include training to become a  psychological psychotherapist and a  child and adolescent psychotherapist.
