The internship pursues the following objectives:
- Acquisition of practical experience in fields of activity related to psychology.
- Acquisition of knowledge about the tasks and organization of the institution in which the internship is completed, as well as about the design of the respective work processes.
- Developing perspectives for further studies and later professional activity.
- The internship can be completed at public and private institutions whose fields of activity have clearly recognizable links to the course content and professional fields of the degree course.
- The internship can be completed abroad.
- The internship is supervised by a full-time employee who has completed academic training in psychology (Diplom, B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Psychology) or a comparable degree. In special cases, supervision can also be provided by a university lecturer from the Institute of Psychology if this is not guaranteed in the internship position itself.
The internship portal provides an overview of possible internship positions.
- During the internship, students remain enrolled at Osnabrück University with all the rights and obligations of regular students. They are not interns within the meaning of the Vocational Training Act.
- On the other hand, students are bound to their internship position, in particular with regard to the accident prevention regulations, the working time regulations and the regulations on confidentiality.
- Only an activity that is carried out from the time of the university entrance qualification can be recognized as a work-related internship.
- One or more work placements must be completed. The total scope of the internship or internships is 450 hours in each case, whereby 60 hours must be allocated to the internship search and planning and follow-up work and 390 hours of internship time must be completed and documented.
- If the internship time is split, one of the internships must comprise at least 160 hours.
- If at least one internship is completed abroad, the required amount of internship time is reduced to 320 hours due to the increased effort involved in finding and preparing for the internship.
- The activities are usually carried out during the semester break.
- If an internship is completed between the Bachelor's degree and enrolment on the Master's degree course, it can be credited in full. Recognition is granted by the Chair of the Examination Board.
- The planned total internship duration of 450 hours can be reduced by 160 hours if this is compensated by successful participation in additional minor subject courses.
