Structure and content
The Master's degree program in Psychology: Focus on Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy is designed for a standard period of study of four semesters. This corresponds to a total of 120 credit points (CP). Of these, 90 CP are allocated to the modules, which consist of lectures, seminars, exercises and practical activities, and 30 CP to the Master's thesis. The scope of study is 30 credit points per semester of the standard period of study. The curriculum consists of a total of 12 modules, in which thematically or methodologically related courses are bundled. The modules are presented below.
- The moduleScientificThe module Scientific Consolidation consists of content from the fields of Biological Psychology, Differential Psychology and Social Psychology and aims at a scientific consolidation in the field of human experience and behavior, including its social influences, its individuality and its biological-neuroscientific components.
- In the moduleAdvanced Research Methodologyteaches the theoretical and practical qualifications for the evaluation of empirical studies using multivariate methods. In addition, students are enabled to apply complex and multivariate survey and evaluation methods for basic research and for the evaluation and Quality Assurance of interventions and to use them for psychotherapy, among other things.
- As part of the moduleDiagnostics and Evaluationstudents should learn to develop and evaluate psychodiagnostic procedures according to current test theory models. In addition, students should be able to systematically record and assess progression and change processes and recognize the limits of their own diagnostic competence and judgment and, if necessary, initiate measures to support themselves.
- Through the moduleSpecial disorders and procedures in psychotherapystudents should learn to recognize psychological and neuropsychological disorders as well as psychological aspects of physical illnesses in all age and patient groups, taking into account scientific findings. Further subject areas include case conception and treatment planning as well as the further development of existing and new psychotherapeutic procedures and methods.
- The moduleResearch-oriented internship II - psychotherapy researchtakes place in research institutions of the university or in university outpatient clinics with the aim that the students actively participate in exemplary scientific studies and in this context contribute to their planning and implementation.
- As part of the moduleProfessional Qualifying Activity III - Applied Practice of Psychotherapystudents are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in both outpatient and (partial) inpatient settings using scientifically tested and recognized psychotherapeutic procedures and methods. In this context, students conduct anamnesis and psychodiagnostic examinations, take part in individual and group psychotherapeutic sessions and prepare a detailed psychological-psychotherapeutic report.
Students are also offered additional courses such as the practical series and the practical workshop with lectures and workshops by experienced practitioners on various topics.
Students also have the opportunity to extend their transcript of records with undergraduate courses from other degree programs and language courses.
