Structure and content
The Master's degree program in Psychology with a focus on Intercultural Psychology is designed for a standard period of study of four semesters. The curriculum consists of a total of 9 modules, in which thematically or methodologically related courses are bundled. The modules can be divided into three requirement areas:
- Methodological requirements
- Intercultural application subjects
- Other requirement areas
This corresponds to a total study volume of 120 credit points (CP), of which 75 CP are allocated to the modules accompanying the course (including the minor subject of at least 12 CP), 15 CP to the career-oriented internship and 30 CP to the Master's thesis. The average scope of study is 30 credit points per semester of the standard period of study.

The modules Intercultural Business Psychology, Comparative Social Psychology and Development and Culture are generally taught in English.
Requirements of the Master's degree program in Intercultural Psychology
The requirement area comprises two modules, each containing two or one lecture and one exercise:
- In the first module Advanced Research Methodology(from WS 21/22) teaches the theoretical and practical qualifications for the evaluation of empirical studies using multivariate methods. In addition, students are enabled to plan, carry out and assess evaluations of interventions.
- Subject of the second module Diagnostics and Evaluation is the evaluation of programs and scaling procedures with special consideration of test-theoretical models.
The intercultural requirement area comprises four modules:
- In the module Development and Culture module provides in-depth knowledge of the interplay between biology and culture and its significance for the course of human ontogenesis, as well as basic and in-depth knowledge of the role of cultural models of autonomy and relationality for the active construction and design of developmental processes. The content of the module also includes diagnostic procedures in infancy and childhood, as well as their theoretical and metatheoretical foundations.
- Subject of the module Intercultural Business Psychology is business psychology topics with special consideration of intercultural aspects. In addition, work and organizational psychology topics are dealt with in depth, as well as questions of consumer and market psychology, including business psychology methods and instruments. The practical use of analysis and intervention methods in the subject area is practiced.
- In the module Comparative Social Psychology social psychological theories are evaluated and reflected upon in relation to the student's own cultural background and its effects on psychological processes. Knowledge of methods of comparative cultural research and intercultural skills are taught in intercultural training courses.
- At the center of the module Study project and colloquium in the intercultural focus is the teaching of special subject-specific and interdisciplinary principles and methods, either in the field of development and culture, intercultural business psychology or social psychology. Students should learn to plan, carry out and evaluate projects independently in accordance with scientific standards, to write project reports and to present the results of their project work. The colloquium serves as a forum for the presentation and discussion of the project results.
Other requirements include the minor subject, the internship and the Master's thesis.
For the compulsory elective course (moduleminor subject), students can choose from various teaching units according to their own needs and interests. Details on the respective courses can be found here.
The internship (module work-related internship) gives Master's students the opportunity to apply subject-specific and interdisciplinary skills (key qualifications) to new tasks in everyday working life. Furthermore, they should establish contacts with the professional world and thus create a basis for their later career choice.
In addition, students are offered a series of practical courses and a practical workshop with lectures and workshops by experienced practitioners on various topics.
Students also have the opportunity to expand their transcript of records with additional courses in the field of educational psychology as well as undergraduate courses from other degree programs and language courses.
In the Master's thesis students should demonstrate that they are able to work independently on a psychological issue conceptually and methodologically according to scientific standards using psychological methods and present it in writing in an appropriate form.
