Internships

All internship regulations can be found in the  internship regulations.

General information

  • Three internship modules must be completed in the Bachelor's degree program in Psychology: the professional internship (4 CP), the orientation internship (5 CP) and the professional qualification activity I (8 CP). A distinction is made between version(a) in accordance with the licensing regulations and version (b) in general for the orientation internship and BQT I.

  • Students seeking a license to practice must complete the orientation internship and BQT I in accordance with version (a) of the licensing regulations (PsychThApprO). All other students can complete the internships according to version (b) in general.

  • The internship(s) should serve to acquire practical experience in fields of activity related to psychology and to acquire knowledge of work processes, structures and the organization of the institution(s). In addition, the aim is to develop perspectives for further studies and later professional activity.
  • Students are responsible for finding an internship position(s) that meets their requirements and interests.
  • For all internships, only an activity that is carried out from the time of the university entrance qualification can be recognized. For the vocational internship and the orientation internship, internships that were completed before the start of studies can also be recognized, provided that the necessary requirements are met.
  • The  internship portal provides an overview of possible internship positions.
  • The internship position(s) can be  abroad.
  • The activities are carried out in a block (during the semester break) or during the course of study.
  • The internship modules can also be combined - taking into account the respective requirements.
  • During the internship, students remain enrolled at Osnabrück University with all the rights and obligations of regular students. They are not interns within the meaning of the Vocational Training Act.
  • On the other hand, students are bound to their internship position, in particular with regard to the accident prevention regulations, the working time regulations and the regulations on confidentiality.

Internship modules

Successful completion of the internship modules is certified with a total of 17 credit points.

The work-related internship comprises 120 hours (4 CP), of which 30 hours are allocated to the (first-time) internship search. This means that only 90 hours must be completed. It can be completed at public and private institutions whose fields of activity have clearly recognizable links to the course content and professional fields of the degree course. The internship is supervised by a full-time employee who has completed academic training in psychology (Diplom, B.Sc. or M.Sc.) or a comparable degree. If the internship is completed abroad , 30 hours will be credited for the increased effort involved in finding and preparing for the internship.

The orientation internship comprises 150 hours (5 CP). The orientation internship (a) in accordance with the licensing regulations must take place in an interdisciplinary health care facility or in another facility in which counseling, prevention or rehabilitation for the maintenance, promotion and restoration of mental health is carried out. The orientation internship (b) in general can be carried out in all professional fields of psychology in which a person with a completed academic education in psychology (Diplom, B.Sc. or M.Sc.) or a comparable degree is working.

Professional Qualifying Activity I (BQT I) comprises 240 hours (8 CP). BQT I (a) in accordance with the licensing regulations serves to acquire initial practical experience in specific areas of psychotherapeutic care. It must take place in psychotherapeutic, psychiatric, psychosomatic or neuropsychological care facilities, prevention or rehabilitation facilities (with psychotherapeutic, psychiatric, psychosomatic or neuropsychological care), facilities for people with disabilities or other areas of institutional care in which psychotherapists, psychological psychotherapists or child and adolescent psychotherapists work. For BQT I (a), at least 60 CP must already have been completed in the degree program. BQT I(b) in general can be carried out in all professional fields of psychology in which a person with a degree in psychology (Diplom, B.Sc. or M.Sc.) or a comparable degree is working.
