Beschreibung

In most of the countries of the world, the military is one of the most influential institutions of any society, however its involvement in politics varies considerably in each polity. Following this, the seminar offers a critical approach to the analysis of the relationships between the armed forces and the civilian political leadership under different types of political regimes. During the course, emphasis will be stressed on the processes and outcomes of the interactions that take place between the military and civilians in terms of political decision-making. After a revision of the mayor debates from sociology and political sciences on the study of civil-military relations, the course deals with a comparative review of different patterns of civil-military relations through the analysis of paradigmatic case studies in different regions of the world.
