Beschreibung

This seminar deals with the different ways in which language is shaped by social structure and representative of it. We will examine, which social factors influence differences in phonological, lexical, syntactic and morphological structure. We will define these social factors such as gender, age or social class and further evaluate how identity formation is concerned with language. As a step up from these patterns, we will then look at how globalization reinvents these structures and reshapes our understanding of sociolinguistics.
This is a seminar so active participation and weekly preparation is crucial to create a good working atmosphere. You are required to invest at least 2 extra hours per week on these tasks. This seminar is designed for 4LP students only, Prof. Bergs offers a lecture on Language Evolution for 2LP. You may approach me about taking the class for 2LP if you have a scheduling conflict or particular interest in the topic of this course.
