From OE cneo to knee- How and why do languages change? We will look at the different structure levels on which changes occur and analyze the mechanisms and catalysts involved. Historical changes as well as present day changes to the phonological, syntactical and lexical system will be discussed.
Active participation is required and key to the success of the seminar. You need to be willing to read and prepare assigned texts and discuss various topics in class.
