Lecturer: Dr. Neela Enke, Scienza – Science Coaching, Berlin
holds a doctorate in biology and has over 10 years of experience as a researcher and team leader in several European research institutions. She is a coach for Phd candidates, professors, team leaders and teams. Her main topics are career development in academia and beyond, self- and project management, leadership as well as gender/ diversity and conflict management. As a trained mediator she also has a focus on conflicts in research organisations.
Content:
In this online workshop doctoral candidates will learn, how to navigate the sometimes challenging relationship with their supervisor, address problems professionally, and build positive interactions. Advice is given on the basic structure of the supervisory relationship in Germany. Participants explore the expectations they have of their supervisor and vice versa, and roles and responsibilities are explained.
We will briefly discuss how to manage difficult conversations with the supervisor. Through self-assessment exercises, participants will learn about their own personality and interaction styles. We will consider the particular challenges faced by international students, and there will be the opportunity to explore specific personal challenges.
