Memorialization of racist violence: Thirty years after the arson attack in Solingen | by Dr. Mert Pekşen (IMIS/IfG – Osnabrück University) | On May 29th, 1993, five people (Gürsün İnce, Hatice Genç, Gülistan Öztürk, Hülya Genç, Saime Genç) were murdered in the racist arson attack in Solingen. How does the city remember the victims of the attack? Focusing on this specific case of a racially motivated attack against migrants and minorities in Germany, the talk will discuss the contested politics of memorialization in the urban context.
